ANALYSIS OF THE STATE OF SURFACE WATERS OF THE RIVER BASIN OF THE WESTERN BUG FOR A LONG PERIOD

Abstract

The analysis of the surface water status in the basin of the Western Bug River has been carried out using a system of classification of standards for assessing the state of surface waters in Ukraine. The calculation of the environmental assessment of the state of water is carried out within the limits of three blocks: a salt block unit, a block of trophic-saprobiological indicators and a block of indicators of the content of specific toxic substances. The results are presented in the form of a combined environmental assessment, based on the final conclusions of the three blocks and consists in calculating the integral ecological index. Comprehensive studies on changing the quality of the water of the Western Bug were conducted within the territory of Ukraine during the long-term period. The ecological status of the water in the river on the basis of the total values of the integral indicators of the quality of water of the three blocks corresponded to 2-6 grades of quality, from "very good", "clean" to "bad", "dirty" waters. The final ecological indexes (IE) for the worst of their values vary within the II and III grades of quality and are estimated from "good", "fairly clean" to "mediocre", "moderately polluted" waters. The dynamics of changes in the total values of the integral indicators of the state of surface waters in the basin of the Western Bug, according to their worst values, indicates: progressing their pollution with mineral substances; a significant increase in pollution by trophosaprobiological components and a steady increase in pollution ofsurface water with toxic substances.
