INTENSIFICATION OF THE WATER SOFTENING PROCESS USING MAGNETIC DISPERSIVE MATERIALS

Abstract

The experimental results of effectiveness of the water softeningprocess using magnetic dispersive materials (MDM) are presented in the article. The chemical and electrical-chemical MDM preparationmethods comparison shows the advantages of the latter method. The recommended parameters of electric coagulation set are: cathode rotation velocity 200 revolutions per minute, current density 25,7 A/dm2, MDM specific use 0,43 l/ dm2 per minute.The MDM dose and pH increasing over the critical point (pH=13) do not leads to mater softening grows. But MDM dose lower than 0,05 g/l cannot ensure the water softening efficiency demanded.The main MDM use purpose is to create the magnetic crystals, which consist of MDM particles and hardness crystals. Dealing with high pH values we cannot use the softened water without pH reducing using additional acidic reagents, equipment, maintenance personnel.So the conclusion of experimental research is that electrical-chemical MDM preparation leads to 10 times lower MDM dose, lower pH values.That is why we can save the capital investigations so as themaintenance costs for water softening when using magnetic dispersive matherials.
