The article describes the problems which require solutions in the field of landscaping of adjacent areas of modern multi-storeyresidential buildings, the relevance of this topic is indicated. The actual building norms concerning the improvement of adjacentterritories are given and analyzed. The essence of the modern approach оf the design and location of housing in the city structure is indicated. A modern approach to creating a "city for people" is described. Innovative tendencies concerning the decision of playgrounds are noted, the concept of sociocultural space is described. As examples, the improvement of the adjacent territory of a number of modern residential complexes in the city Rivne is analyzed. The conclusions of the research are formulated and the main tendencies of improvement of the territory of modern housing development are outlined, the positive and negative sides of the townplanning policy of this direction are indicated.
