Abstract

The article analyzes the number of founders and established companies across European universities. This study is based on the PitchBook Universities ranking. The PitchBook Universities 2022 ranking is based on the number of founders, student startups whose companies received a first round of venture capital funding between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2022. The author carried out gender distribution of founders of startups created by students in European countries. The study analyzes rating of higher education institutions by the number of female founders. The analysis is based on The Female Founders Monitor. FFM – monitoring of women founders of startups (including at universities in certain countries of the world).  According to the conducted research, most of the investments are in startups founded by both women and men, or only by men. This made it possible to study the impact of entrepreneurship on women's employment. In this connection, particular importance should be attached to startups created by female students in European countries for 2012–2022. Empirical evidence supports the mixed impact of startups with multiple female founders: the impact of startups founded by women varies by university and country. A decrease in the available capital for startups will mean less aggressive growth, for investors – carefulness in choosing projects for investment. This analysis has proven to be effective in solving a number of different problems. Thus, the study tries to understand the frequency of startups created by students in European countries. Overall, the study showed a link between universities, startups, and the gender distribution of team members. Further research is needed to feel that there is more to understand about the complex relationships between startup propensity and the growth potential of student startups.
