TRANSFORMATION OF UKRAINE’S GRAIN PRODUCTION STRUCTURE IN THE GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE CONTEXT

The dynamics of grain production structure in the regions of Ukraineis analyzed in the climate change context. It was determined that in the 2000s there was a redistribution of crop areas and gross harvest of grain crops. The stable increase in grain yields in all regions of Ukraine is observed. The grain production structure has changed: the specific weight of wheat decreased from 50% to 40% and the specific weight of corn increased from 15% to 42%. Because of the global climate change the southeast region loses its leading position in the production of grain and leguminous crops. But the specific weight of the central and western regions of Ukraine in the production of grain and leguminous crops has increased. The reason of such transformation is the climate change: frequent droughts in the springsummer period, winters with little snow, global temperature increase. Soil degradation has the important role in this process too.References
