DATA MINING DEMAND FOR EDUCATIONAL SERVICES (HIGHER EDUCATION) AS THE EXAMPLE OF THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF WATER AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING

Abstract

Data mining of educational data is an urgent task because it allows obtaining useful information to support decision-making on issues of education quality management. A study of the demand for educational services of higher education was conducted on the example of the National University of Water аnd Environmental Engineering (NUWEE) for those applicants, citizens of Ukraine, who made their professional choice for the first time at the bachelor's level of education based on complete general secondary education for the period from 2018 to 2023. In the article, data mining tasks were solved using RStudio. Based on the results of the analysis, it was established that during this period there was an increase in the number of  applications to NUWEE with priority 1. The results of the intelligent data analysis performed in Rstudio showed that during the studied period, more than half of the NUWEE entrants mostly confidently make their choice. The rest of the applicants choose a cautious strategy of their behavior during the admission campaign. The results of cluster analysis (densityMclust) in RStudio, depending on the value of the competitive score of applicants and their chosen specialties, showed that the dynamics of demand for educational services in NUWEE for the period 2018–2023 is non-stationary (its statistical characteristics change over time) and non-ergodic (not characterized by homogeneity). Depending on the values of the applicants' competitive scores and their chosen specialties, cluster analysis based on statistical models (Mclust) was also performed in RStudio. The resulting clusters are characterized by their inherent behavior (strategy) of applicants. In general, for the period of 2018–2023, a positive trend can be observed in the dynamics of the shares of applicants who submitted applications to the NUWEE, indicating priorities 1 and 2 in the applications. Thus, according to the results of the research conducted on the example of NUWEE, for the period from 2018 to 2023, the relevance of the application of methods of intellectual analysis of data on the demand for educational services (higher education) was confirmed. The obtained results will contribute to the further improvement of the quality training of qualified specialists in Ukraine.
