Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of historicism in the architectural image of buildings of the 2000–2020 in Rivne.Historicism is a stable architectural trend during the years of independence of Ukraine, accordingly, in Rivne, a large part of new buildings contains historical styles stylistic elements. After Ukraine gained independence, a change in the architecturaland urban planning paradigm took place, as, firstly, the Soviet directives that controlled architectural processes disappeared, and secondly, there was a need to find a modern Ukrainian architectural identity. One of the reasons for the transformation of historicism into a stable architectural trend is the reaction to the laconic solution of construction Soviet modernism (1960–1980), as well as the presence of market demand for architectural objects with elements of historical styles. The typology of historicism architecture of the 2000–2020 in Rivne is represented by office centers, commercial buildings, hotels, multi-apartment residential buildings. Also, a characteristic phenomenon is the change in the stylistic solution of existing buildings facades during their reconstruction by using architectural details of historical styles.Historicism in the architectural image of 21st century buildings in Rivne is presented on three levels: the ensemble, the building, individual decorative elements. Historicist architecture is generally characterized by symmetry in the decision of ensemble composition or the main building facade, as well as the use of decorative elements of order, arches, pediments, brackets, etc.Often due to the oversaturation of facades with details, buildings of the 2000–2020 stylistically represent kitsch architecture. However, the variety of historicism manifestations creates an opportunity to implement contextualism principle and take into account the specifics of the existing architectural environment when constructing new buildings, which is especially relevant for the historical city center.
