Abstract

Studies to assess the potential of new sugar beet varieties with applying the calculated rates of mineral fertilizers in the conditions of the Western Forest-Steppe were carried out with varieties of both domestic (Kalinovsky, Verkhnyaya, Chereshnevy) and foreign (BTS 4905 N, Smart Narnia KWS, Concertina KWS) selection. The experiments were performed at the Rivne branch of the Ukrainian Institute for Plant Varieties Examination in the village of Verkhivsk, Rivne District, Rivne Region. The field experiment was conducted for three years (2018–2020) in a randomized complete block design with three replications and total plot area 81 m2, estimated plot area 54 m2. The soil of the experimental plot is light loam chernozem podzolized (WRB, 2006. Luvic Phaeozems Albic). The calculation of the mineral fertilizers rate was carried out for the planned yield at the level of 70 t  ha-1. The experimental scheme provided a comparative study of various  sugar beet varieties: 1. Chereshnevyі; 2. Verkhnіa; 3. Kalуnіvskyі; 4. BTS 4905 N; 5. Concertina KWS; 6. Smart Narnia KWS with applying the calculated rates of mineral fertilizers N277 P112 K327. The results showed that the highest plant density before harvesting was provided by the varieties Chereshnevyі, BTS 4905 N, Smart Narnia KWS – 97 000 pieces ha-1. The highest survival rate of sugar beet plants during the growing season was provided by the variant of the experiment with cultivation Smart Narnia KWS variety – 90.7%. The highest yield of sugar beet roots was on the variant with the Smart Narnia KWS variety – 81.1 t ha-1. The maximum harvest of sugar per unit area was demonstrated by the Smart Narnia KWS variety – 14.8 t / ha. Resistance against cercosporosis at the declared level in all years of research was demonstrated by the Kalуnovskyі variety – 7 points in 2018 and 2019, and 5 points in 2020.
